CASTING

Ceramic Shell Investment Casting (CSIC) is one of the near net shape casting technologies. The wet layer further stuccoes through sprinkling the relatively coarse ceramic particles on it or by immersing it into such fluidized bed of particles. The ceramic coating is built by successive dipping and stuccoing process. Investment casting is a centuries-old casting process that centers around lost-wax casting. It's called “investment casting” because the mold pattern used in this casting process becomes “invested” with the liquid refractory material. The sand is often reclaimed and reused multiple times. Molds for sand casting usually have two distinct halves that are tightly fastened together when being used. Investment casting, also called lost-wax casting, makes parts from molten metal, usually stainless-steel alloys, brass, aluminum, and carbon steel. Green sand is an aggregate of sand, bentonite clay, pulverized coal and water. Its principal use is in making molds for metal casting. The largest portion of the aggregate is always sand, which is often a uniform mixture of a form of silica.
